Pre-season matches – On Saturday 17th August, Peebles RFC take to the road when they travel down to Carlisle for a pre-season match with Carlisle RFC whose colts recently took part in the Peebles Under 18 sevens.
This match will allow the coaches to run the rule over the squad and try out different combinations ahead of the coming season.
Next weekend Peebles welcome Carrick RFC from Ayrshire for matches involving both the 1st XV and Reds squads.
Academy Selections – Last Sunday afternoon Peebles RFC had representation starting in both the Under 18 and Under 16 finals for Borders & East Lothian Academy, each against Caledonia.
In the U18 final, on Netherdale (Gala RFC), Patrick Harrison took the field at hooker. While in the U16 final, Arran Cameron and Patrick Cannon started at 3 and 15 respectively. The U16 final was also held on Netherdale.
All three players went with the best wishes from the club.
Hawick Sevens – Last Saturday the 1st Sevens squad travelled down to Mansfield Park for the Hawick Sevens the second round of the Kings of the Sevens for season 2019/20.
Due to withdrawals the draw had to be rejigged and Peebles ended up playing Boroughmuir in their first tie – losing a tight encounter by 17 – 21.
Jedforest continued their impressive form beating Melrose 17 – 10 in the final.
Season 2019/20 – Peebles’ national competitive fifteens season opens on Saturday 31st August with a National League Cup preliminary round fixture at home to Whitecraigs from Glasgow and the following week 7th September the National League season opens with an away fixture against Gordonians in Aberdeen.
