Peebles Reds – Last Saturday saw the traditional end of the playing season when the Walkerburn Sevens took place at Caberston Haugh. A Peebles Reds squad of young players took part kicking off with a tie against Ross High from East Lothian in the first round winning by 12 – 7 with scores from Buster Davidson and David Collins who also kicked a conversion.

Next up in the quarters were Earlston who were despatched 24 – 0 with tries from
Cameron Thrall, Gregg Anderson, Stuart Hunter and Gregor Nixon with a conversion each by David Collins and George Freeman.

Haddington were the opponents in the semi and again the Reds were successful – winning by 33 – 12 with tries from Gregor Nixon, Stuart Hunter, 2 from Cameron Thrall, and 1 each from David Collins and George freeman who also kicked a goal.

Reds opponents in the final were Melrose Storm who proved to be just too powerful eventually winning by 52 – 5 so it was the runners-up for the Reds but a successful day none the less.

OAPees –This weekend the the OAPees are off on their travels when they head for a weekend of cheese & wine in the South of France at Brignole near Toulon where they will also take part in a match against the local veterans side who played Peebles on their UK trip, the welcome will no doubt be warm in the spirit of the Auld Alliance both on and off the pitch and I am sure plenty of claret will be consumed.

The match itself takes place tomorrow, 1st June.

Piranhas News – The weather was not as friendly as it could have been on Sunday as we said our traditional farewell to P7s and welcome to next year’s P1s. P7s played against the P6s then against the coaches, which some P6 parents noted was like moving from the sublime to the ridiculous. A big thanks of course to all our coaches, without whom this great season would not have happened. Thanks to all the parents and supporters who have driven the Piranhas around, and of course, to all the Piranhas for their great efforts since August. Plans for next season are already taking shape. Make sure you get your kit order in ASAP, and our final line of business is the fancy dress parade on Beltane Friday. Theme is the Rugby World Cup. Meet up details on Facebook when we get them. Have a great Summer! Piranhas Team.

Fundraising Prize Bingo – On Friday 7th June the Eastgate Clubrooms is the venue for a prize bingo session in aid of Peebles Ex-Servicemans’ Pipe Band – 6:45pm for 7:00pm - £6 entry includes your bingo books. Prizes for a line or full house, raffle – all welcome.

AGM - Members are asked to note that the Club AGM will be held on Friday 14th June at 19:00 in the Clubrooms, 19 Eastgate, Peebles.

Key prerequisites to - and dates of these in advance of the AGM - are:-

  • A copy of last year’s minutes has been available from behind the bar since from Friday 3rd May and a file will be uploaded onto the Club web site. Would members please note that no Amendments or Additions were received by the Secretary on the due date – 15th May.
  • Any nominations for the Executive Board had to be proposed and seconded and received by the Secretary by close of play on Friday 24th May. None such were received and thus the executives who were voted on last year have another year to go.
  • The Secretary & Treasurer are staying in post unless they are removed but given there are no nominations to fill the posts that would seem unlikely.
  • The only possible vacancy is that of President and should that post become vacant a suitable candidate will be co-opted on to the Executive Committee.
