Development
boost for Peebles RFC
Grassroots rugby in the Peebles RFC area
has been given a boost after the club received a Kit for Development grant from
Scottish Rugby’s community partner, Scottish Hydro Electric.
Under the banner, Kit for Development, Scottish Hydro Electric is
donating essential kit to local clubs to help them develop young rugby talent
and increase the number of youngsters playing rugby locally. The kit
includes rugby balls, tackle bags and tackle shields.
Peebles RFC are one of the first clubs to benefit from the £90,000
scheme, which is being rolled out across Scotland and will see as
many as 60 clubs benefit this season.
Graeme Paterson, the Club’s Development Officer said: “This boost
from Scottish Hydro Electric is of great benefit to the club.
It has provided much needed additional equipment that will assist in the
delivery of rugby to the Peeblesshire community.
We are striving to increase participation across the game and therefore
additional equipment is required to support this.
Sometimes in the past this growth of the game may have been stifled due
to lack of funds, but with this new grant we are able to continue our successful
growth rates of the game throughout the area without any financial burden to the
club.”
Anna Crampin, Scottish Hydro Electric’s Partnership Manager explained:
“We recognise the important role that clubs play when it comes to developing
Scottish rugby talent. The Kit for Development scheme is a direct contribution
to this activity and is another way that Scottish Hydro Electric is supporting
the communities we supply energy to.”
Colin Thomson, SRU Head of Community Rugby, said: “This is a terrific
example of how a committed sponsor can make it easier for clubs to open their
doors and welcome in those who want to play rugby and have fun.”
