Peebles Girls kick off with good performance
High School Girls come equal third at Borders Tournament
Peebles High School Under 15 Girls took part in their first 'full-contact' tournament this afternoon, and ended up a very creditable equal third.
A good win against Gala Academy was followed by a tough match against Earlston High School, ending up 2 tries each. The decider was against Kelso High School and after building up a 3 try to 1 lead, Kelso moved 4-3 ahead with minutes to play. Peebles girls however equalised with less than a minute left on the clock and would have topped the pool at this point due to a higher tries scored tally. Unfortunately, Kelso managedto score the winner with the last move of the game and went through to contest the final.
This was the first ever competitive outing for the team and for 5 of the players, with only two ever having taken part in any organised rugby before. The full team was:- Charlotte Hope (captain), Tamara Young (vice-captain), Kitty Farrand, Milie Hanlon Cole, Niamh Madden, Kazya Stevens and Kaitlyn Blair.
The High School girls train every Monday lunchtime and are on the lookout for more girls to take part in the hope of getting a full 15-a-side team fielded in the not too distant future. Should you wish to try rugby at the High School, please come along.
