High School Rugby Update
Peebles High School 1stXV make quarter-finals of the Brewin Dolphin Bowl, while Under 15's make plans for Canada.
Peebles High School travelled to Prestonpans last night (28th) to take on Preston Lodge in the Regional Final of the Brewin Dolphin Under 18 Bowl. After taking the lead with a Kieran Owens try in the first 10 minutes, the hosts hit back with a converted score before half time to lead 7-5. Peebles upped the intensity in the second half however with captain Scott Haliday hitting a beautiful line to score under the posts. Murray Brown converted. A shoirt time later the ball was moved wide for Owens to run in another score, again converted by Brown. After this, some terrific defence from the Peebles boys saw out a 19-7 win.
The High School now entertain Trinity Academy in the last eight of the competition. Details of this match will be posted as soon as it is arranged.
The younger squads at the school (S1-3) are due to host Royal High School this coming Saturday, although these games may be doubtful given the cold weather at present.
If you are not up to hiking up to the school however, why not drop into the Clubrooms on Saturday morning for a coffee. The third year rugby and hockey squads are holding a coffee morning from 10am until 12 noon, to raise funds for their forthcoming tour to Canada. The party of 21 boys and 18 girls head off on 24th May for 14 days based around the Toronto area. Four matches are arranged, as well as visits to Niagara Falls, the CN Tower, an Indian Reservation and the Great Lakes. Further fund raising takes place next weekend when the players will set up a 'pop up' shop in the former Central Baguette on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th December.
