Tomorrow - Peebles RFC – sponsored by Glenrath Farms – are back at the Gytes for a home fixture in RBS Championship B and what will undoubtedly be their biggest match of the season - when they host Howe of Fife in what will effectively be a shoot out for the championship with a 12:30 kick off – just like the midday gunfights in old-time westerns. Peter Wright’s men will have to be at their very best if this game is to be won as it must be if Peebles are to achieve their aim of promotion this season. This will be a must see game, and the players and committee are hoping for a bumper home support, so get down to the Gytes bright and early to book a prime spot from which to watch the action. This match is sponsored by Impact Landscapes, Glenrath Farms, Dempster Opticians, The Minis Coaches and Helpers, a number of Player Sponsors and other supporting groups.
Pitchside catering will be by Thomson’s Snack Van with the usual menu of hot and cold filled rolls, coffees, teas, hot chocolate, and cold drinks.

Last Saturday Glenrath Farms sponsored Peebles travelled to Murrayfield to play Wanderers in RBS Championship League B on the back pitches, taking a big stride towards promotion, when they returned with a bonus point win by 39 – 24 from a nailbiting encounter, as the home side clawed back the deficit, to take them to within one league point of Howe of Fife, who still lead the table, both clubs now having played the same number of matches.
The seconds – sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – were also on the road when they travelled through to East Lothian to play Haddington in RBS Reserve League East 1 but unfortunately lost by 61 – 19.
The Colts – supported by BARC Coach Hire – entertained Glasgow Hawks Colts at the Gytes in the National Under 18 League Bowl Semi-final. A win by 20 – 14 in a very tight but entertaining game – full of enterprise from both sides - sees them through to the Bowl final for the second year running – a fine achievement for this hard working squad of boys, their management team and coaches. The final will be played on the back pitches at Murrayfield on Monday April 15th when the Colts will face Hamilton.
Peebles RFC Under 16's, sponsored by Bordermix, hosted Linlithgow in the last league match of the Edinburgh & District Under 16’s Cup at the High School last Sunday. It was a bruising encounter with two evenly matched sides playing for a place in the Cup semi finals. At half-time the scoreboard read Peebles 6 Linlithgow 7. In the second half, after a Peebles try by Ryan Morrison and one from the visitors the home crowd saw an event so rare that it is on a par with an eclipse of the moon! Peebles scrum half & Man of the Match Ross Thomson scored his first try in 4 years of wearing Peebles colours. Dad Colin missed it – he was away on SRU business! The visitors sneaked a converted try to lead by one point with four minutes to go
Buster Davidson, who was slotting home the Peebles penalties and conversions, picked up a loose high ball and found clear ground on the left to cross the try line giving the Wee Pees a 25-21 lead which was defended until the final whistle.
This was a real team effort by the squad, which has developed during the season under Coach Warren Kearney. Semi Final details will be posted on www.peeblesrfc.org. The club thanks David Changleng for allowing us the use of the High School facilities.
On Tuesday afternoon Peebles High School Seniors played their counterparts from Williamwood High in Clarkston East Renfrewshire, in the Brewin Dolphin Under 18 Scottish Schools Bowl semi-final at the High School pitches. Peebles ran out 36 – 7 winners and now face Morrison’s Academy from Crieff in the final. Congratulations to David Changleng, Robbie Lacon, the players and all others involved in High School rugby.
Gytes Gossip sends warmest congratulations to William Napier of the Under 16 squad who was selected to play for Edinburgh Blacks in the first of a series of selection matches for further honours.
