Tomorrow - Peebles RFC – sponsored by Glenrath Farms – are back in RBS Championship B when they travel to Hawick to face the YM at Mansfield Haugh. The ‘Redskins’ are currently two places below Peebles in the table but have two games in hand and will prove to be formidable opposition as the game at the Gytes earlier in the season showed when Peter Wright’s men won by a mere three points in a high scoring encounter. The YM have shown up well this season with Jammie MacFarlane and Gerry McGuinness at the helm and ran both Selkirk and Jedforest close in the RBS Borders Regional Cup. The expectation is that this match will be just as tight but it is one that simply must be won if Peebles are to maintain their quest for promotion. It is hoped that a large travelling support will be down for the match which kicks off at Mansfield Haugh at 3:00pm.
The seconds – sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – are also on the road when the travel down to Poynder Park to face Kelso A in a top of the table clash in RBS Reserve League East 1 – kick off is at 3:00pm for seconds fans.
Tomorrow the Colts – supported by BARC Coach Hire – are scheduled to play an away fixture against Duns in the Borders Semi-junior League – kick off for travelling Colts fans is 3:00pm.
On Sunday the Under-16 side have a home fixture against Royal High in the Edinburgh and Borders District cup – the game will take place at Peebles High School with a 1:00pm kick-off – players to meet at 11:45am.
Last weekend on Friday night Glenrath Farms sponsored Peebles met Jedforest in the RBS Borders Regional Cup at the Gytes. The fans were entertained well with both sides seeking to play open entertaining rugby – the home side obliging with a 31 – 16 win.
Last Saturday the seconds – sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – had a free week with no fixture.
The Colts were at home where they faced Dumfries at the Gytes in the RBS National Under 18 Bowl quarter finals. In a fine display of running rugby they were completely dominant and ran out 54 – 0 winners to progress to the semi-finals. We await with eager anticipation for the draw to be made.
Last Sunday the Peebles RFC Under-16’s - sponsored by Bordermix - had a home friendly match against their counterparts from Ardrossan Accies – the match being played at the High School pitch as Hay Lodge was declared unplayable. Despite the forecast of heavy snow the match, which was watched by a good sized crowd, was played in almost perfect rugby conditions. Both teams were very evenly matched but at the outset Peebles, kicking up hill, nailed their colours to the mast and camped in the opposition half. All their pressure played off when the Pees winger Conor McAllister powered over the line to give his team a well-deserved lead of 5 -3 at half time, the visitors having successfully kicked a penalty. Ardrossan came out of the gates strongly in the second half and despite some ferocious tackling from the Pees, took the lead via a penalty. With only minutes to go, Peebles were awarded a penalty, which was slotted away by full back Buster Davidson, to give the home side a win 8 – 6. Many thanks to David Changleng for the use of the High School facilities.
