This weeks Gytes Gossip for the Peeblesshire News on 11.1.13.
Tomorrow Peebles RFC – sponsored by Glenrath Farm Eggs – are back in RBS Cup action when they travel down to Poynder Park to play Kelso from the RBS National League in a Borders Regional Qualifying tie. This Borders derby will be a difficult one with the home side sitting mid-table they will be looking for a bit of a cup run and Peter Wright’s men will have to play really well to come away with the result. Kick-off is at 3:00pm for travelling supporters – Kelso having the benefit, like Peebles, of floodlights.
The seconds – sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – are at home when they face Lasswade 2nds in a rearranged RBS Reserve League East 1 match at Hay Lodge Park – kick-off is 2:00pm for 2nds fans.
The Colts – supported by BARC Coach Hire – are also down in Kelso where they are playing the Harlequins in the Borders Semi-Junior League. Kick Off is 2:00pm for travelling Colts fans.
Last weekend Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles RFC travelled over the Forth to play Kirkcaldy at the Beveridge Park in RBS Championship B – they returned with a magnificent 62 – 10 bonus point win which keeps them well in the promotion hunt. Howe of Fife also won with a bonus, beating Musselburgh 31 – 10, leaving them one point ahead of Peebles in the table – so it will be all to play for on January 26th for Peter Wright’s men when Howe come visiting at the Gytes in what could be a title decider, albeit Peebles still have a couple of difficult away assignments at Hawick YM and Murrayfield Wands.
The seconds – sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – travelled into Edinburgh to play RHC 2nds in RBS Reserve League East 1 - unfortunately losing a tight but high scoring game by 28 – 25.
The Colts – supported by BARC Coach Hire – were in action in Hay Lodge Park where they entertained Tynedale Colts from Corbridge in Northumberland – the Peebles boys had a solid win testified by the final score of 38 – 0. This was a good performance from the Colts who are gelling into another decent side this season.
The club will be holding its annual Burns Supper on Sunday 27th January 4:00pm for 5:00pm start - as usual it will be free to senior citizen members but this year it will be open to other members at a cost of £10 – names to Jim Currie or the bar steward.
