Tomorrow Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles are at home for a second consecutive week when they face table toppers Musselburgh in RBS Championship Division B at the Gytes – kick-off 3:00pm. Peter Wright’s men will be looking to avenge the heavy defeat inflicted at Stoneyhill on the first day of the league season in August, although it is fair to say that the Peebles team has really gelled since then to produce some good results, especially at the Gytes. This match is sponsored by John and Archie Smellie of Hattonknowe and their guests, and must be won to maintain Peebles’ challenge for promotion into the RBS National League, but it will need a much improved performance from the frustratingly error strewn one against Morgan.
Members and supporters are asked to look out for Helen Newton and friends who will be attending the game in fancy dress and collecting for Macmillan Cancer Care – please dig deep and give generously to this very worthy cause.
The seconds - sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – are also at home when they play Haddington A in RBS Reserve League East 1. This match kicks off at 3:00pm in Hay Lodge Park with the seconds coaches and players looking to repeat the win against Forrester.
The Colts - supported by BARC Coach Hire – are on the road to Hawick to play the Wanderers in the Border Semi-Junior League. Kick off is at 3:00pm in for travelling Colts fans.
Sunday sees the club under-16 side in action when they host Langholm in a Border Under-16 League fixture kick-off 1:00pm in Hay Lodge Park.
Last Saturday Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles were at home when they met Morgan Academy FP in RBS Championship Division B at the Gytes. Starting well Peebles moved into a 28 – 0 lead before an injury to a Morgan front row player forced uncontested scrums for the rest of the match – the visitors having arrived with only 17 players including coach Graeme Kiddie and no front row replacement. This caused Peter Wright’s men to lose momentum as they could not put pressure on the opposition pack to force them on to the back foot and the game suffered as the defences were able to cut down the free space and the number of handling errors increased.
The seconds - sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff – travelled into Edinburgh for an RBS Reserve League East 1 fixture and came home with a 21 – 3 win under their belts.
The Colts were also at home when they played Kelso Harlequins in the Border Semi-Junior League. The home boys won a tight contest 36 – 28 to please the management and coaching staff. This completed the first Saturday ‘full house’ of the season for Peebles.
On Sunday the only winner was the weather for despite it being a glorious day the rain over the previous week had waterlogged the pitches and the match between the Peebles under-16 side and Selkirk Cougars in the Borders Under-16 League was called off. The under-16 squad, however, decided against having a day off, and opted instead to have a full training session at Hay Lodge Park. The work ethic of this squad of boys bodes well for the future of Peebles RFC.
