This weeks Gytes Gossip for the Peeblesshire News on the 12th of October.
Tomorrow Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles are back on the road – this time the short hike to Hawthornden to play Lasswade in RBS Championship Division B. An ambitious outfit Lasswade, having sold a sizeable piece of their previous pitches, invested the money wisely in the superb facility which they now have and have made steady progress up through the league system. They are no doubt looking to move on yet again so this will be a difficult encounter for coach Peter Wright and his men from the Gytes.
For those travelling fans who are interested there are a limited number of seats available on the team bus leaving the Gytes at 1:00pm.
The seconds - sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com - are at home when they entertain Kelso A in an RBS Reserve League East 1 fixture which kicks off at 3:00pm in Hay Lodge Park for those fans not travelling to watch either the 1st XV or the Colts.
The Colts - supported by BARC - make the long journey down to Corbridge to play Tynedale Colts who have made a strong start to the season in the Border Semi-Junior League.
Last Saturday Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles were on home territory at the Gytes for the clash with Hawick YM, conquerors of Musselburgh the previous week, in RBS Championship Division B – a really tight game, which was just as close as the scoreline suggests, saw Peter Wright’s troops just shade it against Gerry McGuiness’ squad by 32 – 29 – both sides scoring try bonus points in sharing the nine tries scored. This match had everything - from the intensity of the physical forward exchanges to the superb running play from both sets of backs – strong defensive tackling from Peebles with backs to the wall when down to 14 men under a yellow card – in a second half when fortunes swung and the result was always in the balance. This was highly entertaining stuff for both sets of fans who played their part to the full in encouraging their favourites on – with the result in doubt right down to the wire.
The seconds sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com made the journey up to the Pennypit complex in Prestonpans to play Preston Lodge 2nds in RBS Reserve League East 1 and came away happy with a 41 – 20 win under their belts.
The Colts Border Semi-Junior League clash with Langholm Colts side was postponed with the visitors unable to raise a side so the young Peebles squad were put through a rigorous training session by their coaches before lending their support to the 1st XV down at the Gytes.
