This weeks Gytes Gossip for the Peeblesshire News on Friday 17/2/12.
Last Saturday Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles took a small step along the way in RBS Premier C with a hard fought 14-7 win over West of Scotland – although still in bottom slot in the table they have closed the gap a bit on those above them but the task ahead remains a formidable one if they are to secure a place in the national League next season.
The seconds – supported by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – were away at Gala where they were well beaten by a strong Gala side by 63 – 0.
The Colts – supported by BARC – travelled down to Hawick to play the PSA in a re-arranged Border Semi-Junior League match but unfortunately just lost out in a tight game 14-13.
Tomorrow Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles are on the road to Hartree Mill to face local rivals Biggar in RBS Premier C – kick-off 3:00pm and looking for a big travelling support. Given the current situation in the league table nothing less than a win will do for the men from the Gytes.
The seconds – supported by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – are also playing away – in Edinburgh against Forrester in RBS Reserve League East 1 kick-off 3:00pm.
The Colts – supported by BARC - play their first round National Knockout cup fixture away at Hamilton with the winners continuing in the cup against the winners of the Melrose v Stirling tie and the losers going on into the Bowl against the losers of that tie. The Colts will welcome all support for this important match - for travelling fans this game kicks-off at 2:00pm.
Tomorrow morning the Eastgate Clubrooms will be the venue for a coffee morning in aid of Peebles Concert Band from 10:00am till 12 noon – usual stalls – entry £1.00.
On Sunday 26th February – prior to the Scotland v France RBS Six Nations match which kicks-off at 3:00-pm – Jim Currie will be hosting his successful carvery in the Eastgate Clubrooms – the match will as usual be shown on the big screen.
On Friday 16th March there will be a quiz night in the Eastgate Clubrooms when teams of 4 will have their mental abilities put to the test – courtesy of quizmaster and question-setter Davy Cornwall. All proceeds from the night will go to Motor Neurone Charities.
On Sunday 18th March in the Eastgate Clubrooms at 2:00pm Peebles Concert Band is presenting a concert for children aged 1 - 12 years. It's called KIDS FOR A QUID because that's the price of a ticket - £1.00. Adults may come along but they must be accompanied by a responsible child !! (That just means really young ones must be with their mum and/or dad )
Tickets may be bought at the door. Also on the bill we have the Junior Band playing a short programme and this will be followed by "HAVE A GO" when anyone can have a go at playing one of the spare instruments on display. Who knows what hidden talent might be out there !
This year the Peebles Sevens – part of the Kings of the Sevens Series – takes place on Sunday 29th April – for details of the special sponsorship packages available in conjunction with the sevens see the club website or contact either Gerard Bony or Davy Swan.
