Last Saturday was a blank as far as Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles were concerned with there being no game scheduled.
The seconds – supported by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – arranged a friendly fixture with their counterparts from Lasswade – a good performance by all saw a 12 – 0 win.
The Colts – supported by BARC – were due to travel to Duns for a Border Semi-junior fixture but the game was called-off.
Tomorrow Glenrath farm Eggs sponsored Peebles are on the road to Falkirk for an RBS Premier C fixture for travelling fans the kick-off is 2:00pm. This is a vital game for Peebles as every point has to be scrapped for in an effort to get away from the foot of the table.
The Colts – supported by BARC – travel to Hawick for a tricky Border Semi-Junior League fixture against the PSA. The Colts are still striving for a top four finish to this season’s campaign and all support is welcome – so if you are at a loose end why not come down to Burnfoot to swell the numbers and cheer on the Colts – you will not be disappointed at the quality of the game - the kick-off will be 2:00pm.
The club held its annual Burns Supper for senior members last Sunday – John Connor piped the top table to their seats followed by the haggis, borne by guest player Tawhiri Walsh, whom it was suggested, was given this honour due to his ability to march to the beat of the pipe music with a certain Kiwi flourish. Kenny Howitt, introduced by the President, Lindsay Laird, then addressed the Haggis with an aggression that wouldn’t have been out of place on the field of play, beautifully done.
After an excellent traditional meal, supplied by Coltmans, Davy Cornwall delivered a witty speech playing on the perceived frailties of the opposite sex which in turn was aptly answered by Fendath McIver who sang the air “ Maid When You’re Young Never Wed an Old Man “ in reply.
Kenny Howitt then regaled the company with the late Jimmy Howitt’s humorous poem “The Dream” followed by equally amusing renditions by Sandy Craig (‘Ailments’ by Jack Dempsey of Selkirk); the popular local Sassenach, Tony Botham and Dan Ward who sang the non-standard version of ‘Side by Side’ vividly describing the perplexing dismantling of his new found love. Fendath, brought some class back to the proceedings by singing the hauntingly lovely ‘Ae Fond Kiss’ and Dougie Copeland rounded off the evening by proposing the vote of thanks which, given the excellent standard of service and entertainment provided on the night, was warmly applauded by an appreciative audience who will be looking forward to next years’ offering.
