GYTES GOSSIP (PN 13 November 2009)

For the second week running, Peebles dominated territory in Scottish Hydro Premier 2, but failed to win. Peebles were camped in the Kirkcaldy half for much of the first 35 minutes, only turnovers, spilled passes and forward passes limiting them to a single converted try. They conceded a try just before half time which spurred Kirkcaldy on and whilst they controlled much of the second half, the Gytes men were limited to a solitary penalty. A poignant Kirkcaldy statement “The visitors were at the end let down by inaccurate passing which just allowed Kirkcaldy defenders to get in place and several times overlaps were wasted.” Food for thought.
Tomorrow there is a midday kick off, again in Fife when bottom of the table Dunfermline host the Tweed Homes men. As the second half of the league campaign gets underway, Peebles will be looking to end their run of defeats that started at Bridgehaugh.

Scotland A play Tonga at Netherdale on Friday 20th KO 7.30 PM with free entry.

To avoid conflict the Border League fixture against Melrose has been changed to Thursday 19th at 7.30 PM.

The seconds at Hay Lodge were 38 points to nil down at half time, then started playing, and drew the second half 0-0 against Kelso. There must be a moral there somewhere. Tonight they visit Riverside Park for a 7.30 PM kick off under lights in the Border Farm Supplies Championship.

The colts had a narrow victory over Gala Wanderers and host Melrose Wasps tomorrow at Hay Lodge also at 2 PM.

The colts U16 played their National U16 Youth Bowl game on Monday night but lost out narrowly 26-21 at Selkirk.

Peebles High School lost in the Brewin Dolphin U15 Scottish Schools Plate at Boroughmuir last week, whilst (at the time of writing) the PHS Brewin Dolphin U18 Scottish Schools Cup game against Marr on Wednesday was still going ahead – see club web site www.peeblesrfc.org for result.

The Scotland v Fiji International will be showing the on the big screen in Eastgate Clubrooms tomorrow. Kickoff is 2.30 PM.

It’s certainly a busy couple of weeks for local rugby.

The Rover’s coffee morning last week was cancelled due to other similar events taking place in the town, however tomorrow, The Victoria Park Centre will be holding their Coffee Morning in the Eastgate Club rooms to raise funds for their activities. Please come along between 10 and 12.
