GYTES GOSSIP
(PN 6 November 2009)
Peebles
controlled much of the territory; lineouts and scrums were good but too many
ruck & maul turnovers coupled with forward passes & knock ons meant that the
Greens took the honours last week and Peebles were denied even a vital bonus
point. If you did notice the lights were on at the Gytes during the game whilst
the sun shone bright overhead, it was at the referee’s insistence – the choice
Peebles were given was that the lights are on for the whole game or they are off
for the whole game. Global warming – what’s that?
Tomorrow the
Tweed Homes men play at Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy. Note the 3 PM kick off time,
with George Shaw hoping Kirkcaldy’s floodlights have improved since the last
time Peebles played under them. Kirkcaldy moved into 5th place with
their win at Jed and are now one point ahead of 6th placed Peebles.
The second’s game
at Netherdale had to be postponed due to shortage of players and in particular
front row. Are there any volunteers out there????. It is hoped the game can be
re-scheduled later in the season. Tomorrow they play Kelso at Hay Lodge Park at
2.00 PM
The colts had a
good win over English opposition at Hay Lodge Park, though it was close.
Tomorrow it is a short trip down the road to play Gala Wanderers who are one of
3 teams that are 2nd equal in the Border Semi junior league.
Tweeddale Rovers
take over the Eastgate Clubrooms tomorrow morning when they are running a coffee
morning from 10AM to midday. Although they do play with a funny shaped ball,
please come along and support their fund-raising activity.
Jim Currie is
chairing a meeting in the Eastgate Clubrooms tonight with the subject being the
condition and ongoing maintenance of the playing surfaces which are of major
concern to the club as winter closes in.
The PHS
Brewin Dolphin U18 Scottish Schools Cup game against Trinity at the Gytes was cancelled when the
opposition team were unable to provide a front row. PHS received a walk over
result and move into the last 32 and play Marr on Wednesday 11th at
PHS kicking off at 2.30 PM
The Brewin Dolphin U15 Scottish Schools Cup against Boroughmuir went ahead at 5 PM last night at Boroughmuir – score on web site as soon as known.
