GYTES GOSSIP (PN 30 October 2009)

Peebles went from a reasonable positive points difference in the Scottish Hydro Premier 2 to negative one in a big loss at Bridgehaugh which is best forgotten about. Tomorrow at the Gytes at 3.00 PM Hawick are the opposition and a big crowd is expected for this Premier 2 Border Derby. Certainly for the second time this season, the sponsors’ lunch is fully booked and there is a big overflow to the Greentree. We expect a fair amount of support for the Tweed Homes men, so come early to bag your spot. Gerard will be at the gate touting his 50/50 club which has seen recent prizes of over £150 at the half time draw.

Once again “Fayre Guid Catering” will be on site with a range of soft drinks, hot filled sausage/bacon/egg etc rolls and other favourites.
It also looks like a busy night in the club with the returning teams, committees, supporters and sponsors post game and a Lusky Disco, for members and signed in guests aged 18 or over, starting later on (remember the club has a Challenge 21 policy and photo ID is essential to gain access to the disco.

The seconds got back to winning ways at Haddington, and tomorrow they will be at Netherdale in the Border Farm Supplies Championship against second top Gala. KO 2.00 PM

The colts managed a successful run against Hawick Wanderers at Hay Lodge and will return there tomorrow for what will be their third home game in a row. The opposition in the Lochcarron Semi Junior league are English side Tynedale who always make Peebles work hard.

On Wednesday 21st, in a game, organised at short notice, at the Gytes the Colts U16 beat Jed by racing to a big half time lead that Jed almost but not quite clawed back by the final whistle. It was an exciting fast paced game with some players looking like future 1st teamers.

Peebles High School’s 3rd round Brewin Dolphin U18 Scottish Schools Cup tie against Trinity was postponed from Wednesday and will now take place next Wednesday 4th November, kicking off at 5.00 PM under lights at the Gytes. Success on the night will set them against Marr in round 4, with a 2.30 KO on Wednesday 11th November at the High School. If you can make these games, come along and cheer the boys on.

Tonight in the club there is a Platinum Club get together starting about 9PM. This is open to current members of the Platinum Club who can bring a friend or 2 or 3 or more, past members of the 200 club who have not made the move to the bigger prize club, and to anyone interested in finding out more with a view to becoming a member. Contact Jim Currie for more information.
