GYTES GOSSIP
(PN 9 October 2009)
A good win away at Riverside
Park last week in Scottish Hydro Premier 2, though Coach Bruce did point out on
Radio Borders that Peebles should have put them to the sword and get the all
important bonus point. The result must set the Gytes men as favourites at
Poynder Park tomorrow against a Kelso side that has failed to impress early
season. That’s not to say it will be easy; no border game ever is.
Donald Anderson was on form despite a gippy tummy that almost had him on the
subs bench at the start of the game. But he made the kick off keeping away from
the porcelain for the duration.
The seconds came up against a
strong Melrose side last week in the opening Border Farm Supplies Championship,
but at least one pitch at Hay Lodge Park is back in use for the time being.
Tomorrow for the second time, Selkirk Stormers; who Peebles beat 44-0 in the
Border Development Cup, are the opposition at the Gytes.
The 4 week winning streak for
the colts ended abruptly last week at the Gytes, but hopes are high for a better
result at Scremerston tomorrow.
Ex player, colts founder and ex coach, ex committee man Dan Ward, has a busy weekend, but not with rugby. Dan was one of the founder members and is one of the main organisers as well as player/coach (rugby lingo) of the Peebles Orchestral Band. On Friday the band will perform their second concert in the Eastgate Clubrooms. Come along and listen. Concert starts at 7.30 PM with doors open at 7.00 PM and is open to the public.
