GYTES GOSSIP (PN 4 September 2009)

The typical game of two halves because of the strong westerly occurred last Saturday with the pundits declaring it anywhere between a 15 and 20 point breeze. Aberdeen’s try in the first half against the wind was ultimately the difference as Peebles failed to score in the second, but the home side defended strongly only succumbing in the last 10 minutes to two late Aberdeen tries. Injury worry Donald Anderson is included in the squad for tomorrow’s outing to Netherdale to play their first of several Border Derbies in Scottish Hydro Premier 2.

The seconds friendly against Duns resulted in a defeat and will have to work hard tomorrow at The Gytes against Selkirk Stormers despite the injuries that were reported last week. The colts U18 also fared no better at Melrose and tomorrow will be at Violet Bank where Langholm provide the opposition. The Colts U16 have an early start, 10.00 AM, at the High School against Melrose in their opening Border U16 League.

There will be a disco in the clubhouse tomorrow night from 9 PM, open to members and guests aged 18 or over. Remember that the club operates a Challenge 21 policy so photo ID will be required (passport, European Driving Licence or ID with the PASS logo). The club is a member of PubWatch and a ban from any PubWatch licensed premises means a ban from all PubWatch licensed premises.

On the plus side, despite the 1st team loss, Director of Rugby, Robert Hogarth had a wee smile on Saturday when he won the Fifty Fifty at The Gytes.

The club have been approached by members of the Highland Games Committee to ask for volunteers to assist on Sunday 13th. If anyone can spare a few hours or more, please contact Alex Briggs on 721415. Your support and assistance will be much appreciated.
