GYTES GOSSIP
(PN 7 August 2009)
A dearth of news last week and
a glut this week as the new season preparations move into top gear.
The Platinum Club kicked off
last Friday and whilst the numbers joining were lower than expected, the prizes
were a huge improvement on the old 200 Club which is now relegated to the touch
line. Pleased as punch, Donald Swanson clinched the first ever top prize on the
day of his 83rd. Check back to Gytes Gossip of 10th July.

September draw by contacting Linda for a form or download from website at

Videos of the Shield Final are
now available. The DoR has the copy which includes the referee’s and assistant
referee’s communications, so by now he will know exactly why every penalty was
given and who gave them away.
The club development officer
reports a good turnout at the Rugby Camp last week, when over 30 youngsters
turned up over the three days at Hay Lodge. Skills coaching was interspersed
with fun games to keep the interest levels high and the coaches and participants
should be complimented on a successful event. We have also been informed of a
very important by product for parents. Some of the youngsters were so tired out
by their exertions they volunteered to go to bed at 7 PM and slept soundly.
Wonder what the parents got up to???
Training on Tuesday moved from
running skills to full contact rugby training and coaching in preparation for
what will be a very important season for Peebles who will be without top point’s
scorer Dan Boughtwood who has moved to Southend,
www.southendrugby.com/news/new_players.html.
Some new faces will be seen at the Gytes this season, but a couple of others
will be missing including Dan, Tig and David Harvey who despite a personal
successful season has taken out a non playing membership for next season.
Vice-Captain Dale Clancy is making good progress with his recovery program, but
will not be available until about the New Year, whilst David Anderson is having
metalwork in his ankle replaced which will see him sidelined at the start of the
season.
Tonight sees the finals of the
touch rugby tournament, Hay Lodge at 7.30 PM which will be followed by a BBQ.
