GYTES GOSSIP (PN 17 July 2009)

The summer camp which runs from 28th to 30th July at Hay Lodge Park for the for P1-3, P4/5, P6/7, S1/S2 age groups still has spaces available at all age levels. Anyone not already booked, should contact graemepaterson@aol.com or download details and forms from www.peeblesrfc.org, then complete and return to Graeme as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment.

Also at Hay Lodge, the annual Touch Rugby tournament was due to start on Wednesday at 7.30 PM. However due to some late entries it was not possible to get the tournament up and running so the evening was given over to a turn up and play event enjoyed by all. The tournament proper will start next Wednesday at 7.30 PM and runs for 3 weeks with the finals followed by a BBQ on Friday 7th August. Details and entry forms are available on the web site www.peeblesrfc.org or contact Graeme Paterson direct to enter a team or just join in.

Heard in the Eastgate. Why do rugby players like smart women?  Opposites attract.

Training proper starts next Tuesday and following last season’s success, will follow the same formula with a specialist running coach concentrating on improving speed over the ground for the players. Once again players from our associate club, Walkerburn will be joining the training sessions.

James Oakes will be re-joining the squad next month and also coming from down under is a utility back, Steve Gee and a second row, Matt Thomson.

Work on improving the fabric maintenance (painting and decorating to you or I) of the function hall will be starting next week. Anyone handy with a paintbrush, hammer and nails, or just some spare elbow grease and a willingness to lend a hand should contact Jim Currie who is masterminding the improvements. Contact Jim on 07742 919694 or leave a message with bar staff.
