GYTES GOSSIP
(PN 8 May 2009)
It’s been a busy couple of
weeks for the PRFC Committee and after the Semi Final win at Dumfries followed
by the Sevens last week, the clear up had not even finished when planning was
started on organising a ‘wee’ trip to Murrayfield this coming Sunday. Posters
have gone up all over the town, a colourful advert in last week’s Peeblesshire
and regular updates on Radio Borders means that the ticket office in the
Eastgate Clubrooms is doing good business and support is ever increasing as the
deadline gets closer. We’ve even heard rumours that a band will be at
Murrayfield supporting the team playing local tunes. The Ticket Office Manager,
Neil, asked supporters to avoid the rush, buy early so as not to be
disappointed. I have done that and am looking forward to Sunday. At £10 a
ticket, concessions £5, and £5 for a return bus fare to Murrayfield Stadium its
pretty good value for a day out. For those ordering scarves and polo shirts
check in with the Ticket Office or web site
www.peeblesrfc.org for their availability as well as for all the latest
information. Peebles will be wearing their red strip, and Glasgow Hawks a blue
strip, so wear lots of red when you go on Sunday.
There should be an article elsewhere on the 3 sets of Peebles brothers involved
this weekend. Adam & Neil Clark in the front row, Allan and Sandy Smellie,
Donald and David Anderson whose third brother, Calum will play for Melrose.
President Jim Currie is also proud that his nephew, Willie Aitken captains the
side.
The late news is that David
Paton has not recovered from an injury sustained at Peebles a few weeks ago and
will be replaced in the squad by Andrew Brown.
Before Sunday arrives, there
are a couple of things to get out of the way. The final round of the Kings of
the Sevens takes place at Jed-Forest, and Watsonians currently lead the table
with Hawick and Selkirk in close pursuit; all three having won 2 tournaments.
The Jed-Forest Sevens start at 1.30 PM and Peebles play Boroughmuir in the 3rd
tie. Closer to home, Walkerburn Sevens start at 1.00 PM with Peebles playing
Gala YM, and it is also the 3rd tie of the afternoon.
Volunteer’s night takes place
on Friday 15th May. This is a night for all those that have given
freely of their time and effort to the club over the past season and should
prove an excellent night with, food and entertainment included.
