GYTES GOSSIP (PN 26 December 2008)

Once Peebles started scoring on Saturday it looked like 15 month home record was going to survive the assault by top of the table Dundee and there was a buzz from The Gytes faithful as the Tweed Homes men opened up a 10 point lead early in the second half when the visitors had a player sin binned. Shortly thereafter a second sin binning and buzz was turning to belief but when the Dundee standoff pounced onto a loose ball and hacked all the way up the pitch to score near the posts followed by the conversion, reducing the difference to 2, the disbelief set in. Another try put Dundee ahead and even the losing bonus disappeared as a converted try was scored on full time and the unbeaten home run ended in disappointment and no points.

With Christmas over, and the New Year closing, the firsts look forward to a 2 week break before they start their cup campaign on 10th January away to Whitecraigs who currently lead Scottish Hydro Electric National 2. Training will however continue on Tuesdays at The Gytes.

The seconds had a break last week, but will have a festive game against Biggar tomorrow at The Gytes; KO 2.00 PM, whilst the colts have an away game at Langholm.

Ex Peebles and now Melrose regular Scott McCormick has been selected for the forthcoming club internationals season which kicks off in Rouen on Friday 13th February.

..... and finally the Boxing day disco for members and guests takes place in the club tonight for over 18s only, and the club will be open on hogmanay until midnight.

Have a good New Year
