GYTES GOSSIP (PN 5 December 2008)

The weather spoilt the party last week with the thirds still not getting their first start of the season, the colts’ Lochcarron Semi Junior League game against Selkirk Youth Club and the U16s cup game against Dumfries suffering from the freezing conditions at Selkirk, Peebles and Peebles respectively.

The main game of the weekend, however, did take place after a pitch inspection at 10 AM and a second 10 minutes before kickoff at Braidholm from whence the 1sts came away with their second away win and a 4 try bonus point to boot, courtesy of the brothers Anderson, David Paton and new boy Steven Groat who grabbed the fourth minutes after coming on as substitute. With Gala losing and several other games being postponed, there is now a small gap appearing between Peebles in 4th and the chasing teams, whilst a higher final place in the league is within reach.

Weather permitting, tomorrow sees Kelso return to the Gytes for a 3.00 PM start in Scottish Hydro Electric Premier 3. At Poynder Park earlier in the season the result was a 21 all draw and Peebles will have to be on the ball to maintain their home run.

The seconds travel to bottom placed Berwick for a Border Farm Supplies Championship match and the colts travel to Jedburgh to play Jed Thistle. The U16s have an early start with a game at Peebles High School against Dunbar GS U16.

Festive entertainment details are now appearing on the web site at http://www.peeblesrfc.org/ (Events – Social Events) which will be updated as arrangements are finalised. Members can of course book the club for their own function, details available from the web site or from the Eastgate Clubrooms.
