GYTES GOSSIP
(PN 31 October 2008)
The firsts were literally
blown away last week by a very strong Haddington effort and a wind reported so
strong that it was impossible to walk in a straight line, or had that something
to do with a few pre-match hot toddies to warm the soul? Either way, even with
the gale force wind and driving rain, the Gytes men left Neilson Park pointless
in both categories. Well done to the brave Peebles supporters who made the
journey braving the elements en route and pitchside. Tomorrow we hope for better
weather and a big crowd when Aberdeen visit the Gytes. Note that the kick off
time remains at 3.00 PM despite the clock change that seemed to summon winter
last weekend.
will again be at the Gytes providing a range
of soup, stovies, bacon rolls, hot and cold drinks and of course risotto whilst
Gerard will be on duty with his 50-50 draw.
The seconds also remained
scoreless at Philiphaugh last week, and tomorrow have another Border Farm
Supplies Championship match against Melrose at Hay Lodge, which if it goes ahead
would be only the second game that it has been possible to play there this
season due to the condition of the playing surface. Note that due to clock
change, this game will kick off at 2.00 PM.
The Colts did get on the
scoresheet, but succumbed to Melrose Wasps despite a good effort. At the moment
there is no game listed for the colts.
The Colts U16 were extremely successful when they bagged a 55 point to 10 win in
the Northern Lights of Aberdeen in the John Lewis Cup on Sunday. The U15 game
against Boroughmuir had to be postponed to due pitch conditions and weather.
The good news from Donald
Swanson is that he is back on the recovery trail, already swimming and walking
albeit in smaller doses than previously; avidly following the weighty tome that
guides him through the recuperation. He hopes to be back at the Gytes tomorrow,
weather permitting.
Also at the Gytes tomorrow,
will be an attempt to get into the Guinness Book of Records for the largest
Apple Dunkin event. Proceeds from the event will be put towards provision of
Peebles Christmas Lights so please give join in the fun and add to the numbers
and give generously to the fund raisers. The Lights Association are looking for
volunteers to help put up and take down the lights as well as to join the
committee. Contact David Pye at
david@meldonifa.co.uk, 721600 for more information. On Sunday there will be
a Lit Vehicle/Fancy Dress at 4.30 PM for the same cause and Jim Currie is
organising an entry from the club.
Finally tomorrow evening’s
entertainment in the club will at the very least be amusing and at best will be
a side splitting comedy event of enormous proportions. The Mimics are in town
for this joint Peebles RFC/Tweeddale Rovers night of humour and fun. Jim Currie
advises that only a few tickets, economically priced at £7 remain, and can be
reserved by calling him on 740274 or 07742 919694.
