GYTES GOSSIP (PN 1 February 2008)

Intriguing game at Gytes

Prior to a six-week break in Premiership action when the Scottish Cup, Border League and of course Six Nations Championship will take precedence, tomorrow (KO 3:00pm) sees Peebles entertain 7th-placed Irvine in a re-arranged SHE Premier III fixture.

Though the Gytes men have recaptured second place through Saturday’s win over Morgan, it’ll have not escaped their attention that Irvine had a 15-9 win at Berwick the same afternoon.

And you can bet that the Men from Marress will be hellbent tomorrow on a second away win over a Borders club in successive weeks.

Against that, the local Travelling Faithful will point to Peebles’ 5-try victory in October at Irvine where Donald Sangster (2), Dale Clancy, Duncan Macdonald and Donald Anderson had the scores.

So it’s an intriguing prospect for The Gytes tomorrow and a game that should be as well attended as last Saturday’s!

Talking of tries, it’s been a free-scoring season for the Gytes men whose current SHE Premier III tally is 97 tries, 63 conversions and 30 penalties.

With Peebles and Kirkcaldy on 78 points, it’s the Red-and-whites’ superior points differential that’s edged the Fifers into third spot in the latest table.

And of course Peebles have a game in hand over the Beveridge Park men.

Whereas Kirkcaldy are at home to Perthshire and Dunfermline, Peebles meet Irvine tomorrow then complete their SHE Premier III programme in late March away to Murrayfield Wanderers and finally at home to Livingston.
