GYTES GOSSIP (PN 25 January 2008)

Taysiders on Tweed

THEIR last win may have been a full 10 days before Christmas, but Peebles got their promotion challenge firmly back on track with Saturday's stupendous 54-8 victory at Ellon.

Donald Sangster's return from injury aside, another highlight of this; the visitors' first-ever win at The Meadows was Dan Boughtwood's 29-point haul.

It included four penalties in addition to the fly half's conversion of all of Peebles' six tries   his own included.

Now only 15 points short of the 200 mark, Dan's latest contribution was incidentally witnessed by his dad who by all accounts was a welcome addition to the Travelling Faithful on Saturday!

Third in the latest SHE Premier III table (but with a game in hand over new leaders Kirkcaldy) Peebles entertain 7th-placed Morgan Academy at The Gytes tomorrow (3 PM KO)

The visitors from Tayside recorded a 27-0 home win over Livingston last weekend.

Match sponsor John Campbell of Glenrath Farms Ltd. and club President George Shaw would like to see a bumper crowd to cheer the boys on.

So, if you can, please take yourself down to The Gytes tomorrow.

Elsewhere, Peebles 2nds mark the absence of Border Farm Supplies league action with a friendly in Lanark tomorrow.

Peebles Colts in contrast are at home to Selkirk Youth Club in the Lochcarron of Scotland Semi-Junior- League.

"We were disappointed to lose 12-5 to Gala Wands on Saturday," said Coach Graeme Paterson but it was a cracking game in which it was really good to see both Rory Milne and Scott Raeburn back in playing mode after long-term injury”.

And lineally, fans at he Gytes tomorrow with an interest in campanology should listen out for familiar noises wafting up the Tweed from Netherdale. It'll be the sound of Gala and Kirkcaldy knocking seven bells out of each other.
