Crossing Forth seeking fifteenth win

What a way to start the New Year! For tomorrow sees Peebles resume their SHE Premier III programme by taking on their fellow promotion contenders Kirkcaldy on their own patch (KO 3:00pm).

And of course the Fifers have an unbeaten record at Beveridge Park this season, their 10-all draw with Gala in November the closest they’ve come to a blemish.

In fact, Kirkcaldy’s most recent defeat was at The Gytes in mid-October, an occasion when no fewer than 5 top team regulars were missing from the Peebles’ squad.

The absence of Neil Hogarth, Duncan Macdonald, Willie Aitken, Ryan McConnell and Davy Paton in October could be significant tomorrow when the quintet could emerge as “secret weapons” in Peebles’ cause.

In contrast to the Fifers’ fine home record, Peebles have saved their best form for away games this term. Indeed they cross the Forth tomorrow seeking their 9th successive win on the road – and their fifteenth overall.

Also on the plus side is the fact that, having lost their last four meetings with the Gytes men (two of them at Beveridge Park), the words “Peebles” and “Bogey” must be synonymous for Kirkcaldy.

And of course the Red-and-whites will be hell-bent on getting up the Fifers’ noses again tomorrow.

Nevertheless, a keenly-contested nerve-tingler is on the cards, one at which a big Peebles following could make all the difference.

Thus the supporters’ bus which leaves the Eastgate at 12:30.

If only the boys could run out tomorrow at Beveridge Park to a roar like the one that greeted them at Netherdale last month. If only…………
