GYTES GOSSIP For PN 30 November 2007

GYTES GOSSIP

Whistler Bev

Second-top plays second-bottom tomorrow when local SHE Premier III reps Peebles entertain Berwick at the Gytes.

Both teams were victorious at the weekend, but whereas Peebles’ win was their 11th of the season, Berwick’s was only their third.

Tomorrow’s 3:00 KO will be preceded by a minute’s silence for Jim Cleghorn.

Also at home this weekend are Peebles Colts for the visit of Kelso Quins. Our local lads won 22-12 away to Berwick on Saturday.

Peebles 2nds meanwhile take on Kelso away this weekend. (Check teamlist for confirmation of date and time.)

In Saturday’s 58-0 home win over Berwick Bears, the try-scorers were Graeme Frank, Sean Taylor, Rhys Wilson, David Brown, Scott Deacon and Graham Hogarth.

Two features of this game – Keith Nisbet at scrum-half and Allan Beveridge in the role of referee – will come as a surprise to most fans.

But it’s nothing compared to the shock of hearing that the match official at the recent Ellon v Perthsire game was an American lady referee.

A fact which was confirmed by Perthshire committeeman and former Peebles banker Bob Lindsay.

No, you couldn’t make it up.

And finally, special thanks go to 1sts centre Duncan Macdonald for deputising as match reporter at Ardrossan while H.L. Parker had what’s euphemistically called a “comfort break”.

Rather unkindly, various spectators on Saturday pointed out that Duncan’s written contribution made considerably more sense then the scribe’s ever do.
