GYTES GOSSIP

D. P. T. Scribe

The Game of Two Halves had the Peebles supporters wondering why they had bothered to travel to Dundee on Saturday long before the interval. A second half renaissance, cheered them up no end as Peebles found their confidence, things clicked into place, ball stayed in hand and the Peebles attack opened up flaws in the home team’s game plan as they added 6 tries to the first half one.

Overheard at the game, “Where can I buy a goldfish? There seems to be lots of plastic bags around here with goldfish on them” There followed a discussion on various fish dishes, and which country ate the different types of fish. Was the first half that bad?

Not content with being interviewed by John Beattie on Radio Scotland last Friday night about his Torch Trust Trophy Award, Donald Swanson, one of the four Peebles guests at the pre match lunch in Dundee, received further congratulations from Morgan Club President, David Adam.

Reminders for Membership have been sent out. If you’ve not paid then please do so as soon as possible to Membership Secretary, George Tait, or leave with the bar staff.

The Villeneuve Wines red wine draw for travelling supporters was won by John Swanson.

It’s now well into the second half.
B “Do think George will reverse my ban on travelling to away games for being a jinx now we are winning?”
C “No he won’t. You’re still a bad influence”
B “Fair enough”

Tomorrow, the firsts meet bottom of the table Murrayfield Wanderers at the Gytes. Note kick off is 3.00 PM. It’s a game where Peebles cannot afford to slip up and must take maximum points to maintain their current advantage in the Scottish Hydro Electric League.

The seconds have a tough game against Gala at Hay Lodge Park in the Border Farm Feeds Championship that kicks off at 2 PM.

The colts want to get back to their winning ways and are away to Melrose Wasps, who they beat convincingly earlier in the season.

The “Be There To Be In It,” Member’s draw was not claimed when number 237 came up; much to the disappointment of the owner of number 236, Director of Rugby, Bob Hogarth who was in the club.
The prize moves on up to £150 for the next draw on 1st December. See club web site http://www.peeblesrfc.org for details.

For your entertainment in the club tomorrow night, there will be a Race Night at 7.30 PM, followed by a Disco starting at 9.30 PM.
Tickets are only £3 and can be obtained from Neil Hogarth or Jim Currie.
Over 18s only. Photographic proof of age will be required.

New SRU sponsors Baxter’s are providing the first course for tomorrow’s player’s teas.

Plans are well in hand for The Hamilton McCullough Memorial Shield game. This year it will be played on 22nd December, when Peebles 1sts play Melrose 1sts in the BSPC Border League at the Gytes. We will be raising money for local charity Make a Difference (MAD) throughout the day. Details available on the PRFC web site at when confirmed.
