Peebles Hero Assaulted in Perth!

As if the Gala game wasn't nerve-wracking enough, there's another nail-biter at The Gytes tomorrow when third-placed Peebles entertain 2nd-placed Kirkcaldy.

Both clubs have won 4 and lost 2 in this term's Scottish Hydro Electric Premier III campaign. But the fancied Fifers' narrow defeats have both been away to good teams, Dunfermline and Ellon.

Peebles in contrast have an exemplary away record but a poorer home one. Don't watch alone tomorrow!

Elsewhere Peebles 2nds, seeking their 4th Border Farm Supplies league win, are at home to Hawick. The Colts meanwhile have a long jaunt south on Lochcarron league business to deepest Tynedale.

The Seconds incidentally had a fine 22-15 friendly win at Perth on Saturday.

Stand-off Paul McBride, winger Graham Hogarth and Keith Nisbet (second row honest!) had the tries, the other 7 points coming from Craig Borthwick's boot.

"A good win by an under-strength team," opines touch judge Robin Wilson, "We'd nine call-offs."

The oddest thing about Saturday's game at North Inch Park in Perth concerned Peebles' cameraman Donald "Spirit of Rugby" Swanson. For every time the wind blew, our local hero was subjected to a ferocious aerial assault. By falling conkers that is. Some would say however that this repeated bombardment was Donald's own fault for setting his camera up beneath a horse chestnut tree.

And finally, let us just hope that 'Les Bleus' do not give Gerard Bony - The Club Treasurer the blues when they play England tomorrow evening - just as we hope 'The Blues' from Kirkcaldy do not give George Shaw - The Club President - the blues tomorrow afternoon at the Gytes.
