GYTES GOSSIP - Peeblesshire News 28/9/07
Gala Day at Peebles
Fans of a nervous disposition are advised to give the Gytes the widest
berth possible tomorrow. For it's the venue for the top-of-the-table Scottish
Hydro Electric Premier III clash between Peebles and Gala.
Peebles may have run in 22 league tries already this term, but the
Maroons have amassed bonus point wins in all four of their games.
In comparison, the Piranhas' World Cup Festival curtain-raiser should
provide an oasis of calm!
Meanwhile, Peebles 2nds host Kelso at the High School, hoping for a
repeat of their Border Farm Supplies league form in beating the Bears 34-11 at
Berwick. Special mention goes to the versatile David Anderson and CORUS “Man
of the Match” Paul Stewart.
Elsewhere, Saturday's 19-14 Lochcarron league win over PSA is the first
time Peebles Colts have won a league game against any Hawick team during Graeme
and Rab’s coaching regime. Colts hope for friendly action this weekend.
Lastly, personal thanks go to John Calder and the staff at Border Cabs
for their continuing support of "Gytes
Gossip".
There are of course many rugby fans at Border Cabs' office, including
one who asked if I remembered Borders rugby icon of yesteryear, Charlie
Drummond.
Yes, but only just! And as Radio Borders pundit Bill Polson has
confirmed, the Second World War restricted Charlie’s international cap tally
to eleven.
