      Busy road to Berwick

It’ll be a busy road to Berwick tomorrow where both Peebles 1sts and 2nds are on Scottish Hydro Electric Premier III and Border Farm Supplies Border Championship business respectively.

Following Saturday’s fine win over Ardrossan, the 1sts are up against a Berwick outfit that’s had a mixed bag of results so far this term.

For the Scremerston men have suffered 40-point defeats away to Morgan and Livingston, yet won by 50 points at home to Murrayfield Wanderers.

Meanwhile Jim Currie reports that Saturday’s Border Farm Supplies league clash with Haddington ended in a 21-46 loss for Peebles 2nds.

“We’d a lot of players out of position,” explains the Peebles VP*, “Yet the boys stuck in well and the heads didn’t go down.”

Home points came from tries by Ray Callan, Graeme McKinnon and Kenny Gibson plus 3 Paul McBride conversions.

Elsewhere, a Euan Jackson try brace was the highlight of Peebles Colts 34-5 win at Kelso Quins last weekend.

“Quins are actually a good side,” says Peebles coach Rab Wilson, “But with Stuart Borthwick and Neil Warnock controlling the game, we dominated throughout and our opponents just couldn’t cope.”

Peebles entertain Hawick PSA tomorrow afternoon at the Gytes when the Colts will be the only Peebles rugby team in their own country.

            * above : “VP” stands for “Vice President”. But it could just as easily be “Venerable Prop” making Jim Peebles’ most VP.
